'Character Ed' is a community-wide character education initiative working to create a "culture of character" in the Springfield area through the united efforts of business, schools, civic organizations, the faith community, and media each focusing on one character trait each month. Originally launched in 2005 by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the Character Ed initiative is now a cooperative effort with the Springfield Public School District and the Ozarks Regional YMCA.

For information regarding the Character Ed mascot or character education training, contact: Ashley French, Ozarks Regional YMCA Telephone: (417) 862-7456 or by email.
UPDATE 2009: With a new Chamber website on the horizon, the Character Ed materials most often used have been moved to the Springfield Public School District's website, where community members can continue to access them. The Ozarks Regional YMCA will continue to manage the Character Ed mascot and may be able to offer character education training for those interested. The partner list on this site will no longer be maintained, but we encourage everyone to continue focusing on the Character Ed Word of the Month to further our aim of creating a "culture of character" in the Springfield area.
